Aqua Natural Diamond Black 10lb, Premium Gravel and Substrate for Aquariums, Fish Tanks and terrariums, 1-2mm

I ordered this to add a “sediment” layer for my aquatic plants, and to give a different landscape for my betta Tatsu. I rinsed and soaked them in a bucket overnight to get all the debris out and peace of mind that it’s clean; definitely helped with the cloudiness prior to adding.I added a thin layer across the pea gravel I already have; it was plenty of material for my 10 gallon tank. If used alone with no other substrate/rocks, you’d probably need 2 bags of this for a 10 gal.My pet peeves but doesn’t totally kill the vibe:1. They don’t sparkle under water at all ☹️2. If you have a foam filter like mine that sits at the bottom, these quart rocks are as small as sand and my filter sucked them up and clogged it. I will be getting a top flow filter instead, so not too annoying.3. I will update once I do a complete tank clean to share how difficult it is to clean with how small they are - by the looks of it, it’ll be a challenge. Wish they were larger size!

I've used 4 bags in my 40 gallon tank. 2 bags wasnt enough for all the micro bacteria. I love being able to make a realistic surface with it (no flat). My live plants have died, I haven't tried cleaning yet, but I got a siphon specific to sand. This is very close to sand.

The media could not be loaded. Just set this up tonight in about an hour of time. Was sketch about getting the black sand and reading the reviews. However, if you do as everyone says and clean it, and then when you think the waters clean then rinse it one more time. I did this about 8 rinses in a kitty litter bucket we only use for freshwater. This picture is 5 minutes after I added the last bucket of water. Key point is to use a bowl and set it in the bottom and let it float around as you pour the water in, hitting the bowl with the water every drop. Crystal clean and looks amazing. Highly recommend this product if you do the right steps!Ps as you can see in the video it is not entirely black, but I love the color contrast and how it glistens off the LED light.

Works great but I’m puzzled as to why there is metal in it. So far it’s not bothering my fish and it was by chance I had a magnet grab up some. It should tell us on the label somewhere. I think I’ve bought 4 bags of it.

Love how fine and soft this is for my pleco to lay in and sift through and it doesn’t affect my water perimeters at all like rocks do. I would highly recommend washing multiple times and draining all the dust shavings before adding and then allowing it to settle in the tank before adding your fish.Only con for me is It is hard to clean without a tank vacuum

Looks great!I will note it was pretty dusty and took a bit to wash off. I did have to empty my tank twice to get rid of the last of it but honestly if you have a bigger bucket it would be easier.Definitely will use this again though.

This is not fine sand nor is it small gravel. It's large sand. It is pretty easy to work with unlike sand and is easy on the bottom dwellers unlike gravel. Naturally colored it will bleed out a little while preparing. I did several rinses and soaks over 2 days before putting in the tank. It sparkles under the light but with no glare. vacuums pretty easily, you will get some up the tube but just let it sink to the bottom of the bucket, pour out and pinch it back into the tank. Simples. Would re-order again. This is the only thing IMO that competes with Carib Sea Supernaturals Peace River which is the perfect substrate in all situations. Just hard to fine and boring in color.

I got this because of the sparkle effect and well. It’s there. But not very much of it. And I gotta really convince myself it’s there.Not very easy to clean but the fish love it !
