Seems very well designed
I have to say this may be the best-designed device I have ever bought! So far, anyway -- I see some reviews that have encountered failures of some kind. So far mine has behaved perfectly. (Unlike a certain DVR, and a pair of noise-cancelling headphones that lasted six months before physically shattering!) It has a couple of features that may be common but I don't have wide experience. They impress me, anyway! First, the buttons on the remote audibly *click*, so you know when they've activated. All my other remotes just have rubber buttons with no indication of when you've pressed them enough to activate. It makes this remote really easy to use.The other feature of great convenience is "Resume", which may be common these days, but is new to me. When you have to stop a DVD in the middle and turn off the unit, it will automatically restart exactly where you left off the next time you switch on.It comes with an actual printed manual, too... a practice that seems to be getting rarer these days -- headphones, take note! It's compact -- just folded paper -- but complete. Easy to find what you need to know. Even the remote may have had a little more thought put into its design. Very pleased so far.I haven't tried the region-free feature, yet. Never got any foreign DVDs because my previous player was not region-free. Other reviews seem to have had n o trouble with it, though. I've no doubt it will be invaluable at some point.

Good Multi region player
We watch a lot of British TV. The picture is of the American TV show MASH playing on it. I've went through a lot of Junk multi region players. They will work for a whole & quit in less than a year. We bought one of these about a year ago & it is still going strong so I bought one for the living room during the prime day sales. A DVD player should last decades not less than a year. So far this brand is the only one that's lasted a year. DVD players used to last like this one. Now most of them are junk. Don't waste your money on a different multi region player that will quit in you before you can blink. Get this one folks.

Would say great, but intermittent blackouts
Update:I added back a star since using a higher quality HDMI cable did the trick and so far so good, no more image blackouts or squeaking! And the supplied cable worked just fine to connect one of my monitors to my work laptop. Conclusion: if you have a newer Samsung Smart TV, this dvd player will work BUT 1) do yourself a favor and get an Amazon Essentials HDMI cable and use the included cable to connect peripherals to a computer, not to your tv: 2) the dvd player isn’t recognized immediately by the tv and you must use the supplied remote, not the tv remote, with the dvd player. But not too long after you connect the hdmi cable, if you put a dvd in the player it will automatically start up. I am now very happy with this little player! Would be a 5 star review had the player shipped with a higher quality hdmi cable!Original Review (3 stars):Pros: I bought this player to play my mostly foreign dvds, replacing a $16 player from grad school that worked great until the tray stopped opening. So far it is playing my beloved Australian tv series (Region 4) that was recently discontinued on Netflix. Image is crisp using the HDMI-HDMI connection. After this I will try my region 2 discs. Although audio is annoyingly loud initially, the remote works well and the sound is actually better than when I watch tv through the computer connected to my Samsung smart tv, so that is great.Cons: Starting on evening 3 of watching my Region 4 series, every so often the image on the screen will briefly turn totally black and occasionally I hear a squeak from the dvd player. TV is a Smart Samsung LCD new as of a few months ago when my kitten knocked over and broke my last TV). I inspected the disc that first experienced the issue and cleaned it with a cloth, although there was no dust or smudges on it. All seems fine with the tray, but my next step is to try a dvd lens cleaning disc. So far the same thing has happened with four different discs. I also plugged the provided HDMI cable into a different HDMI port on my tv, but the issue persists. I might try using a different HDMI cable to see if that works and I haven’t tried the supplied RCA cables with the RCA-HDMI converter I used on my old dvd player, but I can’t imagine that would give the same quality as a HDMI-HDMI connection. The blackouts are fairly infrequent, although very annoying and by evening 4 they happened at least a dozen times. My only other complaint is that the player does make noise when playing, but nothing I can’t live with. I only hope this player lasts 15+ years like my last one half the price did. And I hope that trying a different HDMI cable and/or playing a cleaning disc will solve or at least minimized the black screen/squeaking issue.

Does the job
After reading the reviews on this region free DVD player, I decided to purchase this one because the boxed set of Lost in Space that I purchased would not work in my regular DVD player. I definitely wasn't disappointed. Setup for this DVD player is a breeze and I can now enjoy watching any DVD because it is region free. I am a very happy person!!

Hasn't eaten my DVDs yet
When it's turned off, there are no idle lights. Nothing to indicate it's plugged in. Very important for me considering I have it in the bedroom. On my last DVD player, I had to cover the lights with stickers. This one has a larger display but unless you turn it on, there's not a single lit bulb. Also, the remote buttons make a satisfying click sensation when they are used so you know when you've clicked a button. It's a little thing, but I appreciate It.

Access to my beloved classical music revived
I’m ancient and to have my CD and DVD collection available again is a God-send.The player works as expected with delightful audio and video. The remote was a bit tough for my old arthritic fingers but with the aid of one of those plastic jar opening sheets I managed.I’m absolutely delighted with this July special purchase I almost passed on. I’m listening to Mahler 7th symphony as I write this.

great region free dvd player! i watch a lot of movies that are full screen and to be able to toggle between resolutions is great! the HDMI upscaling is really great. and one big thing for me is when i watch PAL dvds on my old player, the audio is slightly faster and higher pitched, this DVD player perfectly adjusts to NTSC. great find! fast shipping too
