It has a base that needs to connect to the WiFi and plugged into a power source at all times and the camera can either be powered by the rechargeable battery not included or the USB source also not included. Overall it is a good camera that can be basically be put anywhere.Note- You can receive push notifications to your phone but it does not include pictures or videos UNLESS you put a memory card in the base.

I was skeptical at it being battery powered (there is a base station that IS wired, but the camera itself is battery powered and has a great range). How long can the batteries actually last?Overall, I was extremely impressed by the Wansview B1. Quick synopsis:The Good: amazing customer support, amazing images, compact, battery powered, weather resistant, great range from base station, long battery life, great for people who want to check in on the house or the pets.The Bad: Setup didn't go smoothly for me, you MUST use the Wansview app to setup (no web browser access), not fully compatible with all 3rd party IP camera apps, limited recording capabilities - not something I'd use for more robust security monitoring.More detailed review:On initial setup, my base station wouldn't connect to my WiFi. I did a hard reset (hold down BOTH buttons on the base station for about 15-20 seconds, it will tell you when it's reset). After the reset, it connected fine.I'm a more technical user, so some details here may be a bit nitpicky. The Wansview app is pretty decent for a free IP camera app - however, it's not the most intuitive app to use. If you are patient, you'll eventually figure it out.The Windows PC Wansview app is not compatible with the B1. You can detect the camera, and manage some settings, but you can NOT schedule recordings, or even view video in the PC app from the camera as of this writing.Whenever you access the camera, it will make a clicking noise. This doesn't seem to bother the birds I'm watching, but is definitely something you hear whenever you connectThere is no web based interface, so you can not access advance functionality of the camera or view its video through a web browser. The only way you can access the video is the phone app. You can't set static IPs, ports, or anything like that.I tested the range of how far the camera can be placed from the base station. I had a good connection up to about 50-60 feet. After that it would drop out. Pretty impressive.Battery LifeMy purpose was to use this camera outside in freezing temperatures. I bought two sets of batteries worried about how often I'd need to change them out. Well, going on about 3 weeks, and the app still says the first set of batteries have a FULL charge. I'm impressed. It seems the camera mostly hibernates until you access it through the app. That click you hear is it activating and turning everything on. Clearly it keeps some radio contact with the base station while it "sleeps", but that appears to hardly use any power at all. Temperatures have been below freezing since I've had the camera which usually chokes most batteries, but so far so good! I DID turn off the PIR sensor, so that likely helps.It comes with a VERY strong magnetic base. You can see in my uploaded picture/video that I mounted it to a tree with the included hardware. And it doesn't go anywhere. I've stuck it to metal doors as well.The other image is a sample of a still taken through the camera. Very good quality.You can take pictures and videos through the Wansview app. Once there, you can use the app to save them to Photos, or send them by text, save them elsewhere, etc. I did not try using a memory card or using the motion sensor/ftp options, but you can set it to save/send images when a motion alarm is tripped.Final Thoughts:I like this camera. If you are patient enough to figure out the app, and you just want to check in on things, or watch the birds, this is an impressive little setup, especially if you want to put it somewhere without having to look at ugly wires up and down the wall. However, if you need more robust options, or need a more intuitive way of accessing it, you may have some frustrations. Other than that, the Wansview app will connect to the camera even when you are away from home, so checking on the dogs is easy to do!Update 2/27/19: I've had the camera running about 3 months now. I just had to change the batteries for the first time yesterday. I had it outside in cold weather for a few weeks, then inside the rest of the time on dog monitoring duty, where I would check it several times a day for a few seconds at a time. One time, I watched them for twenty minutes straight when they were in a new area to make sure they didn't get into trouble.The battery monitor showed full charge for all 3 months, and then suddenly went into the red, so I swapped them out, so the battery charge indicator in the app may not be totally accurate, but regardless, I think 3 months of charge on one set of batteries is pretty impressive. I only bought one of the cheapest sets of batteries that I could find on Amazon, so we'll see how many times they cycle. But, so far so good!

I was looking for an outside, battery operated camera as there is no electrical connection at my front door. This camera really does the trick. Easy to set up and deploy. It has a very strong magnet in the adjustable base so all you do is mount the steel disc and then the camera is easily removable by the magnet because you will need to charge the batteries every so often. The batteries are the rechargeable 1865 Li-on batteries that you will have to order separately as they are not included. There is a wired base unit that you connect to Wi-Fi through the downloadable app. Then connect the camera to the base unit and you are ready to go. It works great and even has motion detection.I highly recommend this! The company has great support also.

I purchased this camera as a relatively cost effective solution to adding security to my home. I am using batteries in it and I am quite pleased with the performance. The night vision is provided via IR lighting. I had one small issue in that it seemed as though I could not see anything at night with the camera. Everything was very dark. However, when I tested it by walking in front of it, it seemed to pick up my motion and my face very well. I typically would like to see my driveway with this camera at night, but in reality, this is not the main goal. The goal is to get motion detection and a reasonably decent image of what triggered it. The camera seems to do that adequately. I am most impressed by the battery life. I have not charged the batteries in two weeks and according to the app, they are still full. The camera is only 'on' when it is triggered by the app or by motion, so typically, it is in standby and using very little battery.
